The idea and concept for this film is based of time I have spent volunteering at an old age home. The character design and concepts are based of St Joseph’s Old Age Home in Northcote.

The characters in this film are based of the residents I have interacted with. It focuses on you may think elderly are dull but there is so much more to them.

They have lived for a while and have so many experiences and I wanted to give them an opportunity to share that through movement. This is an artistic piece that explores the art of movement. The genre is entertainment and comedy. It is intended to make the audience feel emotionally engaged, joyful and wholesome.

The target audience would be broad. However, I would aim to cater towards people who are close to retiring age.

People thinking about mortality and those who are worrying about getting old. I want them to enjoy the fluid movements that the characters feel as they dance to the music and even though they may be old, they are still young at heart. Younger adults would enjoy the film for its visuals and music.

I want people to enjoy this film as much as the elderly people enjoy dancing to the music. I want them to feel more connected to the characters dancing and to realize that the elderly have so much more to them. Despite being old they still manage to bust out moves as if they were in their 20s with their lived experiences.

The aim is for the film to be heart touching, emotional and inspirational. That you are never too old to enjoy the little things. The goal is for those feeling anxious about getting old to realize that this is a journey of life and the cliches of an old age home being boring are not true. I want to show the audience that they shouldn’t assume someone’s capacity of being able to do anything by age.

I feel that the field of animations surrounding the elderly has not been given the spotlight as much as other work and I would love to create that. During my research for this topic, I found some incredible videos of elderly having a good time dancing and I would love to use all my knowledge of animation from the past two years to create this. I aim to dismantle the stereotype that the elderly lack the same degree of enjoyment in life in comparison to the younger generation.

Ultimately this is an opportunity for me to combine the two things I love the most, animation and spending time with the elderly. Music plays an important role in this film, Original music has been commissioned for Still Groovy.
