kungfu Old Girl

2D

Yuanyuan Liu (Lynn)

This film is inspired by the real story of my grandma. She was born in 1950s in China in a small village. Because in traditional Chinese value, women shouldn’t get much education and her family was poor, she only went to primary school and can’t read a lot of words. But she learnt Taiji when I was in junior high school and she was 60s. At first it is because she had some back problem and someone suggests her to learn Taiji, it is good for her body. According to my grandpa, she learnt really hard, she practices the basic every day and even learn to read to remember every move and their names. Right now, she becomes a Taiji coach for elders and college students and sometimes as the judges of big Taiji competition. Her story really inspires me, and I hope her story can inspires others.

This film discusses traditional Chinese values of woman and problem many Chinese women faces, like balance of family or dream, dream and reality. The grandma is the representation of the balance of traditional and modern woman.
